Change a User's Privileges on Vista


Step 1
Create an account. If you haven’t already, create an account for the user. Log in as an administrator. Click Start and then type “mmc” into the search. Press Enter. Click Local Users and Groups. Click the Users folder. Click Action. Click New User. Fill in the information and click Create.

Open the User Account. After an account is already made, access it through the control panel. Click Start , Control Panel , User Accounts , User Accounts (again) , Manage User Accounts. In the Users tab, click the user’s name under “Users for this computer” and click Properties.

Click the Group Membership tab. Here you’ll see the different types of accounts you can select.

Select Standard Account. This type of account lets an account run almost all programs on the computer, but limits them from installing/uninstalling programs or changing settings that will affect other users.


Step 5
Select Guest Account. Guest accounts are for temporary users. They will not have access to personal files and will not be able to install programs, change settings or create passwords.


Step 6
Select Administrator Account. This account has full access to the machine and its settings. A user with an administrator account can install/uninstall files, change settings, access all files and modify security settings.


Step 7
Click OK when you are finished.
