How to Change a User Name on Vista
Microsoft Windows Vista allows multiple user names on the system so that different users can store different preferences. If you need to change your user name on a system, such as if you got married and want to change your last name, you do not have to delete the old one and start all over again. Instead, you can rename your current account and retain all of your settings.
Step 1
Open the Control Panel by clicking the "Start" menu and then selecting "Control Panel" in the right column.
Step 2
Search for User Accounts by typing "user accounts" into the search bar at the upper- left corner of the control panel.
Step 3
Select the "Make Changes to Accounts" option under the heading "User Accounts."
Step 4
Select "Change Your Name" and type in the new user name for the account and then press "Change Name." The changes will take effect the next time you log in.
